Mistletoe

Kissing under the mistletoe is an old Christmas custom. But oh, dear - the word mistletoe combines two words meaning "dung" and "twig", and the mistletoe was first believed to spring from the droppings of birds. It is something to bear in mind the next time you see somebody waiting, with puckered lips, to be kissed beneath the mistletoe.
